Olivier Metzler Aerts is a Belgian-Luxembourgish cinematographer based in New York City.
After obtaining his MFA in cinematography from the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University, Olivier first gained recognition for his cinematography work when he lensed “Fairydust” for director Sarah Gambles (2022 DGA Best African American Short, Official selection 2023 San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, 2021 HollyShorts Film Festival, 2022 LA International Women’s Festival)
He went on to lens “River” for director Joshua Hernandez, which was an official selection at the OutFest Fusion Film Festival, the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, and the Anita Film Festival in Miami. “River” also played as part of the juried competition for Best Shorts at the Gasparilla International Film Festival.
Other new films include “Commute,” directed by Edelle Kenny, and “Smoot” for director Travaé Davis.
Currently, Olivier is working on a documentary for director Natasha Florentino that focuses on the privatization of public housing in New York City and the effects the demolition of NY public housing will have on its residents.
Olivier combines a keen sensibility for lighting and the emotional impact it has on an image with a passion for creating meaningful and poignant compositions to support a director’s creative vision.
